Born in Salzburg, Anna Lang grew up in a family of artists in Altmünster am Traunsee. She began her music studies at the Mozarteum in Salzburg at the age of 15 and is a graduate of the Mozarteum University in Salzburg (piano), the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna (cello) and the A. Bruckner Private University (jazz cello with distinction). Her most important musical companion is Professor Tobias Kühne on the cello.
Anna Lang's artistic activities include performances as a soloist or bandleader on internationally renowned stages and festivals as well as radio recordings on Ö1, Bremen2 or WDR. In numerous ensembles, such as the solo program “Beyond Classic” and the multi-award-winning duo Sinfonia de Carnaval with Alois Eberl, Anna Lang performs not only as a versatile cellist but also as a composer for various theater and film music projects. In addition, Anna Lang leads the music education project “Die Konzertmaus” and works as an instrumental teacher.
With the duo Sinfonia De Carnaval, Anna Lang and Alois Eberl were nominated for the BAWAG P.S.K. Next Generation Award 2015, selected as one of the best five bands in the jazz category by the Austrian Federal Ministry for the “New Austrian Sound Of Music Program 2018/19” and one of seven bands from all contemporary genres to receive the top funding from the Austrian Federal Chancellery, the international springboard FOCUS ACTS 2019. In April 2024, Anna Lang performed with the duo Sinfonia de Carnaval as Austria’s representative at the European Showcases at jazzahead! Bremen.
With “Human Face”, Anna Lang and Alois Eberl present their third Sinfonia de Carnaval album, following “Sweeping Dragon” (Preiser Records Vienna). Accepting an invitation from the renowned Bauer Studios in Ludwigsburg, “Human Faces” was recorded at Bauer Studios and released in 2025 on Bauer Studios’ own label, Neuklang. “Music that is colorful, emotional, and deeply moving.” (Jazzfun.de 2025)
Anna Lang has performed at international festivals in Austria, Switzerland, England, Iran, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Croatia, France, Italy, Israel, Palestine, Estonia, Turkey, and Germany.
A major source of inspiration for Anna Lang is the fusion of literature and music. She has collaborated with actors and writers such as Johannes Silberschneider, Marcus Meyer, Verena Koch, Christoph Ransmayr, and Adelheid Picha.
Furthermore, under Anna Lang’s direction, the music projects PianoForteBrass – Chamber Jazz Quartet and the WoodAirQuartet – La Folía / Lärmende Lustbarkeit were created. Both ensembles were selected for the Jeunesse Austria Provincial Tour in 2013/14 and 2015/16.
Anna plays on a modern cello built in 2020 by Wiltrud Fauler.
