An instrumental sound theater piece for a cellist, a cello, and a cello bow
What images emerge when a single graphically depicted dance movement transforms into an entire dance choreography in the mind’s eye?
What rhythm then pulses through the bodies of the audience?
What musical expression arises in the inner ear?
What might the music sound like if graphically depicted dancers leap out of their drawn character portraits and simply continue dancing in the viewers’ imagination?
“Images, whether moving or still, have been the primary inspiration for my musical work since my earliest childhood. The magic of theater and film has always held a powerful attraction for me. Having grown up surrounded by the artistic output of three generations of artists, it comes naturally to me to translate this powerful inspiration from the visual and dramatic arts into sound. In the project titled Colours Of Drama, the sources of inspiration are selected drawings and lithographs by my grandfather, Erwin Lang. They are role portraits of dancers.” (Anna Lang)
Among the compositional influences in Anna Lang’s music are the rhythms and timbres of jazz and improvised music, but she also incorporates the enduring and valuable foundations of her classical instrumental studies. Above all, her solo program Colours of Drama expresses her creative passion for creating something new and her enthusiasm for other art forms, including visual art, dance, and theater.
